UPDATE: Ajax: Vandaag geen nieuws over Jol

Ajax laat AT5 weten dat het maandag geen persconferentie heeft gepland over een eventueel vertrek van trainer Martin Jol en dat het verder ook niet naar buiten wil treden over de zaak.

Volgens De Telegraaf neemt Jol vandaag een besluit over zijn toekomst. De trainer staat nadrukkelijk in de belangstelling van het Engelse Fulham. Een delegatie van de Britten zou al in Amsterdam zijn gespot. Eerder meldde het Britse The Mirror dat Jol persoonlijk al rond zou zijn met de Engelsen. Ook Newcastle United zou de coach willen inlijven.

Jol, die zondag in een bedroevend slecht oefenduel met Ajax van FC Porto verloor, zou gefrustreerd zijn over de geringe financiële mogelijkheden in de ArenA. De enige kans dat hij toch aanblijft, is volgens De Telegraaf dat hij garanties krijgt van de Ajax-leiding over versterkingen voor komend seizoen.

Jol komt vandaag met de selectie terug uit Portugal. Spelers en staf hebben de rest van de dag vrij.

CASH-STRAPPED Ajax's failure to back Martin Jol in the transfer market has forced him to join Fulham.

That is the view of Arnold Muhren, who was a youth coach under Jol at the Dutch side last season.

Jol looks certain to move to Craven Cottage, despite having a chance to compete in the Champions League this term.

But Muhren has revealed the 54-year-old has been told he will have to sell some of his key players.

Muhren said: "I know Martin is very unhappy at Ajax because he wants to buy some new players but because the club lost £16million last year, they won't let him.

"There are a lot of players at the club that they want to sell.

"He wants to bring new players in but they won't let him do that without selling players first. There is no other money to spend.

"He is desperate for a striker. He has been told that he must sell Suarez and Marko Pantelic was only offered a one year deal when he wanted two or three years so he has left.

"Martin wants to win the Dutch league this season and the board want to sell Suarez.

"He scored 35 goals last season so he would be impossible to replace."
